Driverless car on public drive test drive has been approved in New York

Andrew Cuomo, the governor of New York State, said on Wednesday that the state will allow driverless cars to test drive on public roads.

“We will adopt a prudent and balanced approach to get the driverless cars on the road to reduce dangerous driving habits, reduce traffic accident rates and save the lives of pedestrians on the road,” Kuomemo said in a statement.

Now, New York State is accepting applications. Companies interested in participating in the state's one-year test drive program can apply.

Although some of the traffic accidents of driverless cars, the lack of human drivers' control of cars, and the lack of related infrastructure made people worry about the safety of driverless cars, many companies are racing to develop driverless technology.

Proponents claim that driverless cars can reduce human error and make the road safer and more efficient. According to the National Legislative Council of the United States, 13 states and the District of Columbia have passed legislation related to driverless cars.

The New York State test drive program requires car manufacturers to comply with various regulatory measures and restrictions.

In New York State, companies applying for test-drive drone cars must purchase $5 million in insurance and report the situation to the state, which is supervised by the state police station. Each test drive needs to pay regulatory fees to the state police station.

Moreover, the company that applied for a test drive did not allow a test drive near the construction site or school—in the state of New York City, this included a large area. Moreover, they must test drive on the route that the state designated in advance.

In September 2014, California's driverless car test drive became effective. However, it is not easy to fully promote driverless cars.

Recently, California proposed the adoption of a new bill allowing people to use and test driverless cars without a steering wheel in real life. As a result, many companies that develop driverless technology, including Apple, Tesla, Ford, Uber, Toyota, and Waymo, the driverless car division of Google, the parent company of Google, have proposed amendments to the bill.

Last year, New York City stated that it is implementing a federal government-managed plan to design and test so-called connected car technologies. This technology is an important part of driverless technology.

New York City also installs special traffic lights in downtown Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn that can wirelessly connect driverless cars.

It also plans to use technology that allows them to communicate with each other on 8,000 vehicles (including taxis, trucks, cars, and buses).
